Delft University of Technology is a modern university with a rich tradition. Its eight faculties are at the forefront of technological development, contributing to scientific advancement in the interests of society. Ranked among the top universities of technology in the world (THES, 2006) TU Delfts excellent research and education standards are backed by outstanding facilities, research institutes and research schools. The Faculty of Architecture takes a multidisciplinary approach to research and education regarding important social issues. The three pillars of Design, Engineering and Process play an important role in this approach, as do technical and creative skills. The scope of the faculty ranges from the technical and sustainability-related aspects of design and construction to spatial planning within the Netherlands, such as the development of the Randstad region and other urban areas. Delft is a safe, attractive, and historic town with a vibrant student life: outdoor cafes and restaurants that match the students budget, fine cinemas. All easy to find and in walking distance. No other student city has so many active student, sport and cultural associations. As Delft is based in the urban west of the Netherlands (Randstad), cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague are all within easy reach. Just take one of the many trains, anytime, as they also run at night.
